Canon RangeFinderX
a.k.a. | The DreamLenses |  Rehoused by Zero Optik

The Canon RangeFinderX lens set stands out as one of our most exciting Full Frame lens set additions. What truly sets it apart is the fact that, until recently, these lenses couldn't be utilized in motion picture applications due to the constraints posed by film cameras' spinning mirrors and the limitations of the PL mount. However, the advent of modern digital cameras with increased clearance has made it possible to harness the potential of these extraordinary vintage lenses, and our new ZeroOptik housings simplify their usage.

The foundation of this lens collection was the Canon 50mm f0.95 "Dream Lens." Over the years, we've been augmenting the set with 1960s Canon Rangefinder primes that share the distinct characteristics of the Dream Lens.

Similar to the Dream Lens, all lenses in this set retain their iconic 1960s single-layer coatings, resulting in low-contrast images with enchanting amber lens flares reminiscent of Kowa Prominars. They produce unique textured bokeh and deliver the sharpness required while maintaining a flattering quality.

We're thrilled to introduce our 25mm F1.5. Since there were no fast wide-angle rangefinder lenses from the 1960s to serve as donor lenses for this set, we had to create a 25mm high speed with a 35mm F1.5 plus a Wide angle on top.  This way we are able to match perfectly the sharpness, contrast, bokeh, and flare characteristics of the rest of the set.
These lenses produce significant flares, are exceptionally sharp at the center, with a gradual softening toward the corners.

The Zero Optik rehousing has transformed the lenses, equipping them with 110mm fronts, uniform gear positions, newly designed matte-finished 16-blade circular irises, significantly improved close focusing capabilities, and LPL mounts. The choice of LPL mounts is deliberate since fitting the Dream Lens' optics into a PL mount would require altering the original optical design, sacrificing its uniqueness. Additionally, adapting the 25mm and 35mm lenses to PL mounts would compromise sensor coverage. LPL mounts allow Zero Optik's rehousing to preserve the original optical designs of the lenses, maintain their full image circle, and provide excellent close focusing. This mount has also become an industry standard, offering reliability and compatibility with a wide range of camera systems, including ARRI Alexa, Alexa Mini, RED DSMC1, DSMC2, KOMODO, V-Raptor, Sony Venice, and more. Enjoy it!
